30/30 Dream Art Journaling Technique

The 30/30 Dream Journal Technique is a method of combining traditional text journaling with visual images. The intention of this technique is that it can be used by both artists and non-artists in a creative way to use the images that appear in dreams.

The concept of the 30/30 Dream Journal literally came to me from a lucid dream.  In my dream I was teaching others how to work with the images that appear in their dreams in an easy, comfortable way.  The process would unleash inner creative energy, as well as providing a text and visual record of the rich inner landscapes that unfold in everyday dreams.

Although artwork is a major component of this process, you do not need to be a professional artist to use this technique.  It is very important to realize that this is a process of personal discovery.  No one will be critiqued for artistic merit.  Every one us is creative in some fashion: whether it is finding a creative solution to a work problem, juggling a busy home life, scrap booking, writing, drawing, painting cooking…it is all part of the creative process.

Each dream brings you unique and beautiful images.  There are colors, objects, landscapes, people, action, and answers to questions lying deep within each dream.  By using the 30/30 Technique, you will be working with these colors & images.  By doing so, you may reach a better understanding of what the dream represent to you.  Work though a dream that may seem illusive, mysterious or even frightening.

Diana T.....

It was wonderful, still working with it! Thanks!

Katie P....  I loved this workshop!  After working with my dreams for many years, I'd started to feel a little jaded from all the typical approaches.  Laura offers a whole new perspective that opened up new ways of looking at dreams and responding creatively to them.  I highly recommend this class to anyone with an interest in their dreams.  The projects make you remember just how much you loved the smell of a new box of Crayolas.  There's no feeling of competition of having to be "artistic" enough, it's a process of discovery in a really supportive group atmosphere.  For folks who've been working with dreams a long time this is a great way to break out of the intellectual and verbal rut we often get into thinking about them.

Terri Q....  "It was an amazing experience.  I never realized how much fun and creativity could come from my dream landscapes." Harry B....  "During 16 days in October / November 2003 I was one of the lucky ones who got to beta test Laura Atkinson's 30/30 dream art class. One of the many things I got from it is that just playing with colors can be a lot of fun. Here are a few of the images I created. Thanks Laura!" http://alquinte.com/en/laura/
